THE DIGEST
The latest updates on trash and recycling pickup ๐๏ธ โป๏ธ
Youโre probably wondering when your trash will be picked up, and if your recycling will ever be picked up again. Below is the latest rundown of updates from the city and local reporting I was able to find.
No new trash should be put out today. If your trash is usually picked up on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, it will not be picked up today โ bring it back in. Republic will spend today catching up on missed trash pickups from the last few days. Mayor Cahill expects to provide another update tomorrow.
Until further notice, no recycling will be picked up. So, take it easy on your Prime Day purchases, youโll be stuck with those boxes for a little while.
The Standley Street yard waste compost site is open every day this week from 9 AM โ 3 PM. Those who participate in curbside food composting are not affected by the work stoppage, and compost will be collected on your regular day.
Republic increased the number of drivers in Beverly from three to five starting on July 8, but these drivers arenโt familiar with the area, which leads to delays and missed pickups.
As a reminder, this stems from the Republic Services workersโ union, Teamsters Local 25, ongoing strike. The โworkers are fighting for improved wages, better benefits, and stronger labor protections in line with industry standards.โ

Me to Mayor Cahill ^
The Beverly-Salem Kernwood Bridge reopened ahead of schedule ๐
The Kernwood Avenue Bridge connecting Beverly and Salem was closed on June 2 for repairs to its steel grid deck and structural components. The city expected the bridge to be closed through July 11, but it was reopened early on July 3.
City officials stated, โSome nighttime or marine closures may still occur in the coming weeks as MassDOT completes additional repair work.โ
NSMT brings performances back to Briscoe ๐ญ๏ธ
North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) is expanding its performance spaces by leasing the auditorium at the former Briscoe school in Beverly, now known as Beverly Village for Living & the Arts, a senior housing community. This new venue will allow NSMT to stage more productions, including those from its education program and smaller shows that might not fit its main 1,500-seat theater. NSMT owners Bill Hanney and Karen Nascembeni envision the 442-seat auditorium not only for their own shows but also as a community hub for various performances, from classical music to jazz series, and even private events.
The auditorium requires significant upgrades like a new sound system, lighting, and other amenities to prepare it for shows. Hanney and Nascembeni are aiming to begin performances in the fall, marking an exciting new chapter for both NSMT and the Beverly community.
What else is buzzing ๐
โช๏ธ There is a meeting tonight from 6 โ 7:30 PM in the Beverly High School cafeteria to address the transition of the Second Congregational Church into a day resource center. Those attending are asked to use the entrance located on the side of the school facing the student parking lot.
๐๏ธ Worthy Girl is hosting its grand reopening on July 10 from 5 to 9 PM.
๐ฐ๏ธ Massachusetts is one of the most expensive states for child care. I read this article right after I sold a kidney to pay for daycare, so I tend to agree.

๐ You guys crushed it! The Beverly Bootstraps Back-to-School Backpack Program made tremendous progress over the last week with supplies. Now, they need more backpacks for the kiddos. You can find more information here on what backpacks are needed and where to drop them off.
PET OF THE WEEK

๐ธ Cape Ann Animal Aid
Say hello to Mia, who Cape Ann Animal Aid affectionately calls โMama Miaโ due to the litter of kittens she recently had. Mia is a very nice little lady who is about 2 years old. Sheโs shy at first, but becomes very friendly once she gains your trust and enjoys pets and playtime. She is a low-key kinda girl who enjoys the quiet life, taking long naps in the sunlight in her comfy bed, and watching reruns of Sex and the City. Mia is now part of the extended stay club, which means her adoption fee has been reduced to help her find her forever home sooner. Learn more and apply for adoption here.
