🐝 What do you call a cow in an earthquake?
A magnitude 3.8 earthquake felt in Beverly, Nick's Famous Roast Beef sold, the Beverly mayor race heats up, and upcoming events

Good morning, Beverly. The answer to the subject line: A milkshake. Speaking of milkshakes, Nick's Famous Roast Beef makes pretty good shakes, and now you can buy them from a new owner. Nick’s sells and we have an earthquake on the North Shore that same week. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

THE DIGEST
In case you haven’t seen 38 posts about it on Facebook already…we had an earthquake 🌎️
A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck near York Harbor, Maine on Monday morning. Shaking was felt across New England, from Boston to Portland. In Beverly, MA I was in the middle of a meeting when I assumed my oil tank must have blown up. My tank is fine, I think.
“Moderately damaging earthquakes strike the New England region every few decades, and smaller tremors are felt about twice a year, the USGS said.” On top of that, we faced 60+ MPH wind gusts on Tuesday.
First we had brush fires, then an earthquake, and now incredible wind. What’s next?

Dumb and Dumber
Mayor Cahill holds office hours right before Brendan Sweeney kicks off his mayoral campaign 🏙️
Two events are happening tomorrow back-to-back, and the overlap is convenient to say the least.
Brendan Sweeney’s campaign kickoff occurs from 6—8 PM at Chianti Restaurant on Cabot street.
Mayor Cahill is holding office hours at City Council Chambers from 5—6:30 PM on Thursday.
I don’t know who scheduled their event first, but I love a little competition. If you’re interested in speaking to either candidate, tomorrow is your chance!
Get your three-ways from a new seller: Nick's Famous Roast Beef sold 🥪
This one hits close to home, as I am a North Shore beef connoisseur, and Nick’s was my first.
Nick’s opened in 1975 and has been dealing roast beef sandwiches for 50 years to people across the North Shore and beyond. The owners are looking forward to spending more time with family, while noting: “Nothing is changing except the owners, and we will be here as long as they need us to smooth out their starting point.”
When I first asked an employee how they’d recommend a sandwich, they told me the most popular choice is a three-way, explaining it comes with mayo, a slice of american cheese, and “sauce.” When I responded and said there are probably 1,000 different types of sauces in the world so please be more specific, they told me it was James River BBQ sauce. My life changed that day for the better, and I’ve had 1,000 beefs since.
What else is buzzing
Valentine’s day is sneaking up on us quickly. The best time to make a reservation was yesterday. The second best time is now. 😉 ♥️
The Beverly Farms branch library is closed until further notice due to an HVAC repair that led to a small fire. 📔
The long-awaited public meeting regarding the replacement of the closed Hall-Whitaker Bridge occurs tonight at Beverly Middle School. 🌉
