π Welcome to Beantown
Some local real estate will soon be available, the history of Beantown, and plenty of awesome events.

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Beverly. Itβs time to prepare for a seriously cold weekend. An arctic air mass will bring sub-zero wind chills this weekend with snow expected for Sunday night. The high temperatures are estimated to be 11Β° on Saturday and 14Β° on Sunday. May the odds be ever in your favor.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BEVERLY CREDIT UNION
Feeling the Post-Holiday Bill Hangover?
By now, youβve probably packed all of the decorations away. There are no more cookies left. You may have run out of aspirin from the in-law-induced headaches. But the one thing that remainsβ¦the bills.
If you have received your January credit card statement and the minimum payment is more than what you expected, or youβre still in shock after seeing your credit card interest rate, a Beverly Credit Union personal loan may be a smart way to regain control.
By paying off your high-interest debt with one personal loan, you can simplify your finances with a fixed interest rate and a predictable monthly payment. That means no surprises and a clear payoff timeline, which can help you plan ahead with confidence.
Whether youβre looking to reduce interest costs or just want the peace of mind that comes with one fixed payment, a personal loan could help you start 2026 off right.
Fixed rates start at 9.99% APR. You can apply online in just a few minutes or simply reach out if you have any questions.
APR = Annual Percentage Rate. Rates and terms are subject to change. Not all applicants will qualify for advertised rate. Loan approval and terms based on overall creditworthiness. Membership account required.
THE DIGEST
New Life for Laurel Street ποΈ
The U.S. General Services Administration has officially begun the divestment process for 16 vacant federal houses on Laurel Street. These three-bedroom ranches were built by the U.S. Army in 1958 for soldiers working in Beverly, and the Coast Guard took ownership in the 1990s. However, these houses sat empty for the last three years.
Why are they being sold now? In 2023, it was determined an environmental review was needed to check for things like lead paint and asbestos. Per the GSA, the sale is moving forward now after no concerns were found with the review, and βTo right-size the federal real estate portfolio, cut costs for American taxpayers and optimize the space agencies need to achieve their missions.β There will likely be many interested parties in these houses, and one is the Beverly Housing Authority.
The Real Beantown π«
Move over, Boston. It turns out Beverly was the original "Beantown" thanks to the Beverly Pottery Company. Back in 1890, founder Charles Lawrence crafted tiny commemorative beanpots using clay from the Gettysburg battlefield for a massive Civil War veterans' convention. The souvenirs were such a hit that when attendees brought them home, they mistakenly credited the pots to the host city, Boston, effectively swiping the nickname and leaving Beverly in the dust. To reclaim our local bragging rights, stop by the Cabot House to see Lawrenceβs legendary redware in person β just don't tell your friends in the city.

North Shore Eats this Winter π₯
Looking for something new to try during these colder months? North Shore restaurants are embracing curated, small-scale winter menus. In Salem, Bernadette offers "Bistro Wednesdays," featuring steak frites with exclusive wine pairings. Woburnβs Sogno hosts "Sagra" festivals, monthly themed menus celebrating seasonal ingredients like truffles and artichokes. Meanwhile, Tonno in Gloucester and Wakefield provides "Petite Portions," offering smaller, affordable weekday plates for health-conscious diners.

PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Mayan! Mayan is an adorable three-month-old Retriever/Lab mix and is the perfect mix of playful and sweet. Like many puppies, he can be a little shy when he first meets new people, but give him a bit of time and patience and he truly blossoms. Once he feels safe, Mayan really shows his loving side. He enjoys playing with his toys and curling up right in your lap for cuddles (sometimes both at the same time). Learn more and apply for adoption here.
