THE DIGEST

Downtown Trick-or-Treat is tomorrow ๐ŸŽƒ

Downtown Trick-or-Treat returns this Thursday, October 23, from 4โ€“6 PM. Kids in costumes will receive treats from participating businesses throughout downtown. Cabot St. will be closed to traffic from 3:30-6:30 PM from its intersection with Pond St to its intersection with Railroad Ave., so the little ghosts and goblins can grab treats before dinner.

City updates ๐Ÿ“ฐ

๐Ÿ’Š Medication Disposal Day occurs this Saturday, October 25, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Beverly Police Station. Bring any unwanted or expired medications โ€” prescription or over-the-counter.

๐Ÿ’ง Don't sweat the tap water: Mayor Cahill met with the Deputy Director of the Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board on October 20. Deputy Director Perron confirmed that the Cityโ€™s tap water is safe to drink, explained that our water is tested weekly at multiple locations, and that the public would be notified immediately if there were any cause for concern.

๐Ÿšง City Hall inches closer to a renovation: Beverly officials are preparing to request $25-27 million in funding this December for a comprehensive renovation of City Hall, with construction potentially beginning next summer. Mayor Cahill confirmed the project would temporarily relocate operations to another downtown location during the estimated 18-24 month renovation period.

๐ŸŒ‰ Phase 2 on Brimbal Avenue: Mayor Cahill is aiming to get the long-awaited Brimbal Avenue Phase 2 bridge โ€” the one that connects Brimbal and Dunham Road โ€” back on the state's funding list by March.

Beverly parents' strike lawsuit on hold โš–๏ธ

The lawsuit from two Beverly parents seeking compensation for last yearโ€™s 12-day teachersโ€™ strike is on hold. Both sides agreed to wait on a decision in a similar Newton case, which could set a binding precedent after a judge there ruled โ€œparents do not have a right to seek compensation for teachers' strikes.โ€ The Newton lawsuit is currently in the state Appeals Court.

  • ๐Ÿšฝ Potty mouth? Me too. What curse words tell us about cultures.

  • ๐Ÿ ๏ธ A new policy prohibits Massachusetts home sellers or their agents from requiring a buyer to waive their right to a home inspection for their offer to be considered.

  • ๐Ÿ’ต The Brooksby Village Job Fair is today from 9 AM to 3 PM.
