THE DIGEST

Zoning Conflict in North Beverly 🗼

Residents of the North Beverly neighborhood near Brimbal Avenue are opposing a proposed 124-foot Verizon cell tower off of Tozer Road. Verizon contends that a new tower is essential to close a "substantial gap" in wireless service affecting key North Beverly hubs, including Route 128, Brimbal Avenue, and the MBTA commuter rail station. To proceed, Verizon needs Zoning Board variances to bypass city limits on tower height and property setbacks, as the proposal currently violates both municipal ordinances.

However, The neighborhood controversy may become moot as Mayor Cahill investigates a "communications breakdown" regarding a 2023 proposal to place the equipment on the city-owned Brimbal Hill water tower instead.

What’s New at Northshore Mall 🛍️

The Northshore Mall is on a roll: Old Navy officially opened its doors last weekend, and a wave of new retailers is set to follow shortly. Below is the list of upcoming stores and restaurants you’ll find at the mall.

  • Fogo de Chão: A full-service Brazilian steakhouse.

  • iFixFast: A shop specializing in expert phone and tablet repairs.

  • Claire's: A shop specializing in jewelry, fashion accessories, and ear-piercing services.

  • Shake Shack: A burger joint known for its menu of smash burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and hand-spun milkshakes. You will find me here while my wife is in Old Navy.

An Important Update from the Beverly Fire Department 🚒

After responding to 36 calls during this arctic blast, the Beverly Fire Department is asking residents to clear snow from low-lying appliance exhausts to prevent carbon monoxide buildup, as “many high-efficiency appliances exhaust lower to the ground than our older boilers, hot water heaters, and the like.” If you’re able, please also shovel out your local fire hydrant — it saves crews important time in emergency situations.
