Batter Up In Beverly ⚾

Beverly Little League is celebrating its 76th season with a record-breaking 470 players and a spirit-filled parade on Saturday, May 2. The procession kicks off at 10 a.m. from Centerville Elementary School and winds its way to Harry Ball Field for the official opening ceremonies. Grab a coffee and head over to cheer on the kiddos and the school mascots, or catch the live broadcast on BevCam. As someone who attended last year, you should know two things. 1) It’s incredibly cute and such a fun event, and 2) You shouldn’t plan to drive the route between Centerville Elementary and Harry Ball Field (Hull St. onto Essex St.) from 10-11 a.m.

The Big Brother Debate On Cabot Street 📸

Beverly City Councilors and residents are giving the side-eye to the city's four Flock license plate cameras, debating if the $12,000 annual lease is a steal for public safety or a "slippery slope" toward mass surveillance. While Police Chief John LeLacheur credits the tech with solving high-profile crimes, like a recent Danvers homicide, skeptics like Councilor Kathleen Feldman worry our data is the real product being sold. Mayor Mike Cahill will soon meet with Flock officials to discuss privacy concerns with them before the Council holds its next public check-in.

A New Landlord On Enon Street 🛒

The North Beverly Stop & Shop on Enon Street just traded hands in an $8.5 million deal with Boston-based Transom Real Estate, leaving neighbors wondering what’s next for the 4.9-acre site. While Stop & Shop says it’s just a "change in landlord" for now, Transom is known for major multi-family housing projects, sparking concerns from Mayor Cahill about traffic and train frequency. The grocery store’s current lease doesn’t expire until June 2027.
