🐝 Snow, Snow, GO AWAY!

Snow on Thursday, the search begins for a new superintendent, and Beverly Hospital wins multiple awards

Good morning, Beverly. We’ve got more snow coming this week. To add insult to injury, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Groundhog Day, meaning we have six more weeks of winter coming our way. It’s time to reload on Ibuprofen, rock salt, and hot cocoa.

In today’s Beverly Buzz:

  • Snow on Thursday ❄️

  • The search begins for a new superintendent 🔍️ 🧑‍🏫

  • Beverly Hospital wins multiple awards 🏥 🏆️

  • Upcoming events 💃

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

Snow, snow, GO AWAY! ❄️

Did you think you could put your shovels away for more than three days? Wrong! A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of Massachusetts from 7 AM to 7 PM on Thursday. Up to 4 inches of snow and ice are expected, potentially creating slippery road conditions and impacting morning and evening commutes. The National Weather Service advises caution and slower travel speeds.

The search begins for a new superintendent 🔍️ 🧑‍🏫

Superintendent Suzanne Charochak announced her retirement in January, noting her last day will be June 30 after nearly 30 years of serving the district. The search for a replacement is off and running.

Although the search is open to internal candidates, School Committee Chair Rachael Abell notes that the committee needs the best person available, and it should be clear to external candidates that there is no shoo-in internal candidate. The teachers and School Committee demanded a nationwide search to ensure the talent pool is vast.

The School Committee has allocated $11,500, plus reasonable expenses, to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees to assist with the search process. The search comes after a contentious period marked by a 19-day teacher's strike, resulting in students having to make up 12 school days.

Let’s hear it for Beverly Hospital — a 2024 Human Experience Pinnacle of Excellence Award winner 🏥 🏆️

Beverly Hospital received two awards from Press Ganey:

  • The 2024 Human Experience (HX) Pinnacle of Excellence Award, placing them in the top 5% of hospitals for patient experience for at least two years, and

  • An award for Clinical Quality among large hospitals.

Press Ganey highlighted Beverly Hospital's patient-centered approach and positive outcomes, particularly in areas like outpatient services, pregnancy care, and substance abuse treatment. Press Ganey, a healthcare performance improvement company, works with thousands of facilities and praised Beverly Hospital's commitment to improving the healthcare experience. Also, my wife works at Beverly Hospital and I’m incredibly proud of her work. You can have faith you’re receiving tremendous care when you find yourself at Beverly Hospital!

Fogo de Chão to open in Northshore Mall 🥩

Ready for the meat sweats? Fogo de Chão is opening a 6,200-square-foot space in Northshore Mall sometime this year, providing the culinary art of churrasco: fire-roasted proteins, expertly butchered and grilled over an open flame.

If you’ve never tried Fogo, and more importantly, you’re not a vegetarian, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s a bit pricy, but the food is fantastic and it’s all you can eat!

What else is buzzing 🐝

  • The Super Bowl takes place this Sunday at 6:30 PM. It’s your last chance to eat wings, buffalo chicken dip, and drink beers all day on a Sunday, unless you go to Endicott, Montserrat, or Gordon College. 🏈

  • The Beverly Farms branch library is still closed. 📑

  • Beverly-Salem Kernwood Bridge will be fully closed for six weeks this summer. 🌉

  • Beverly City Councilor Hannah Bowen launched her bid to represent the 6th Essex District as state representative last week. 🏢

  • The Friends of Beverly Dog Park group is looking for new members! If you’re interested, you can join the group here and let them know. 🐕️
