Beverly Hospital nurses close on new three-year contract, a new superintendent is selected, medication disposal day and hazardous waste day, and plenty of events.

Good morning, Beverly. Today is Shirley Templeβs birthday, and I bet you didnβt know she hated the drink named after her. She also served as the Ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1989 to 1992. Thatβs all I have on Shirley Temple for today.

THE DIGEST
Beverly Hospital nurses close on new three-year contract π§ββοΈ
Beverly Hospital nurses have ratified a new contract featuring an 18.5% pay raise over three years, plus annual wage scale increases. The union states the agreement aims to improve nurse recruitment and retention, ultimately enhancing patient care at Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals. The contract addresses concerns about lagging wages compared to other North Shore facilities.
Now you can stop trying to self-diagnose with WebMD and seek out the care of our great local nurses.

We have a new Superintendent π¨βπ«
The Beverly School Committee voted to select Dr. Peter Cushing as the next Superintendent of Beverly Public Schools, effective July 1, 2025, pending contract negotiations. Dr. Cushing comes from the Medford Public School District, where he has been the Assistant Superintendent of Enrichment and Innovation since 2019. He takes over for Superintendent Sue Charochak, who will retire on June 30.
The School Committee expresses excitement about Dr. Cushing's leadership and promises to provide updates on his transition and opportunities for the community to meet him. They also thank everyone involved in the search process.

ποΈ Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day: This event will occur from 8 AM to noon at Beverly High School. Itβs $25 per car and is open to Beverly and Salem residents. Here is a list of things you can dispose of on Saturday.
