π New year, same buzz
An interview with a 105-year-old veteran, an amazing local chiropractor, and plenty of awesome events.

Good morning, Beverly. As we turn the page on 2025, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for tuning in over the last year. You continued to show up and read the Buzz through my bad jokes and confusing subject lines. This newsletter went from an idea to a following of 4,000+ people across platforms in the past year. Thank you for joining me, and I look forward to sharing more with you in 2026.

105 Years of Wit and Wisdom π
Beverlyβs own Louis Tanzer celebrated his 105th birthday on Christmas Day with a bash fit for a local hero. During WWII, Louis Tanzer served as a Marine Corps supply sergeant with the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, patrolling the Pacific from 1942 to 1945. The cityβs oldest living veteran received a Zoom call from Robert Kraft, a card signed by every Patriots player, and over 1,000 birthday cards.
His secret to longevity? Invest in a Roth IRA and take care of your teeth. When asked for life advice, Mr. Tanzer said, βPeace. A small word, but a large meaning. Thatβs what I would wish for this country.β

Healey Administration Opposes National Grid Natural Gas Rate Hikes π
Governor Maura Healey is officially pushing back on a proposed 10% rate hike from National Grid. National Grid claims the hike is βnecessary for infrastructure and safety system investments.β However, Healey has stated that energy costs are already too high and her team is working to lower them. The administration is pushing for transparency and a full investigation into billing errors, and has asked utility companies to "review each and every charge that customers are currently paying to determine whether the charge can be eliminated, reduced, or its impact mitigated."
The Healing Hands of Beverly π
Local chiropractor Dr. Deborah Mager just returned from an "electrifying and satisfying" mission at La Esperanza prison in El Salvador. The 74-year-old marathon runner treated 340 inmates in just two days, working 10-hour days with few breaks in between. Dr. Mager has been going on medical missions for the last 15 years to provide care for countless individuals across the globe. And sheβll be back in El Salvador in March.

PET OF THE WEEK

Meet Fritz! Heβs three-and-a-half-years-old and no longer goes by his legal name due to the fact heβs in The Federal Witness Purr-tection Program. He may be a little reserved when he first meets you and may need some extra time to adjust to a new environment. But once this man comes around, he's very sweet and will give you all the head bumps for love. He has lived with other cats in his previous home and may do well with a calm feline companion.
