๐Ÿ National Hot Dog Day

An update on the trash strike, the Water Supply Board is investigating odor and taste issues with our water, some sweet treats around town, and plenty of awesome events.

Good morning, Beverly. Itโ€™s National Hot Dog Day. Treat yourself to a hot dog, or four. And remember that you donโ€™t need any negativity in your life, so donโ€™t listen to anyone who tries to educate you on whatโ€™s in a hot dog.

In todayโ€™s Beverly Buzz:

  • An update 15 days into the trash strike ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ โ™ป๏ธ

  • The Water Supply Board is investigating odor and taste issues ๐Ÿšฐ

  • The Cabot Street Block Party returns on July 26 ๐Ÿฅณ

  • Upcoming events ๐Ÿ’ƒ ๐Ÿบ ๐ŸŽถ

Letโ€™s get to it.

THE DIGEST

An update 15 days into the trash strike ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ โ™ป๏ธ

Weโ€™re still in the thick of this thing, Bevs. Below is the latest update from Mayor Cahill on July 15, and some additional insights from local reporting.

  • If your regular trash day is Tuesday, have your trash out before 7 AM this morning. If your trash was missed on Monday, have it out before 7 AM as well.

  • People with usual Wednesday trash pickup should not put their trash out today.

  • If your trash from last week hasnโ€™t been picked up, email [email protected] as soon as possible. The city is putting together a list of remaining and newly missed streets.

  • Republic is still not picking up recycling. Per Mayor Cahill, โ€œWe continue to push the company to bring more resources to Beverly and hope they will start to pick up recycling again soon.โ€

  • The Standley Street yard waste compost site (managed by Republic) is open Monday-Saturday this week between 9 AM โ€“ 3 PM.

  • Those who participate in curbside food composting are not affected by the Republic work stoppage, and compost will be collected on your scheduled day.

Strike contract talks resumed between Republic Services and Local Union 25 sanitation workers on Tuesday. โ€œLeaders from Beverly, Canton, Danvers, Gloucester, Ipswich, Lynnfield, Malden, Manchester, North Reading, Peabody, Swampscott, Wakefield and Watertown signed a separate letter to Republic Services late last week that demanded that Republic Services "act to swiftly expand interim staffing by bringing in additional drivers and resources to stabilize service in the short term."

State Treasurer Deb Goldberg and State Auditor Diana DiZoglio joined Secretary of State Bill Galvin in calling for an end to the strike, placing much of the blame for the disruptions on Republic Services. Hopefully, the pressure from state leaders as well as city officials can help drive us towards a solution.

Bevs recalling the last time we had our recycling picked up.

The Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board is investigating odor and taste issues ๐Ÿšฐ

The Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board is investigating resident complaints about the taste and odor of the water in both cities. They believe factors like the recent heat wave and increased water demand may be contributing to the issue. Initial water sample tests showed no bacterial problems and consistent disinfection levels. The Water Board has adjusted its treatment process to address the taste and odor and will provide updates on its website, www.sbwsb.gov, as they work towards a solution.

Letโ€™s talk sweets ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿซ

๐Ÿซ Harbor Sweets is offering 20% off Sweet Sloops through Friday, 7/18!

๐Ÿฆ Northshore Magazine wrote about the best ice cream shops you can find on the North Shore. On the list, youโ€™ll find Cherry Farm Creamery, where I was last Saturday to buy a delicious half-coffee, half-cookie dough ice cream cake. There was no special occasion; we just wanted an ice cream cake.

What else is buzzing ๐Ÿ

  • ๐Ÿ“† Save the date! The Cabot Street Block Party returns on Saturday, July 26, and includes live performances, drinks and food, and a VIP experience at the Pink Peppy Club.

  • ๐Ÿ’ผ Looking for your next gig? The Brooksby Village Job Fair is taking place today from 9 AM to 3 PM. Theyโ€™re hiring RNs, a sous chef, line cooks, maintenance mechanics, and more.

  • ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ In case you missed it: Passengers at U.S. airports no longer have to remove shoes during regular TSA checks.

  • ๐Ÿ• Two MA pizzerias are ranked among the top 50 in the U.S.: Posto, in Somerville, and Si Cara, in Cambridge.

  • ๐Ÿš— Massachusetts was ranked as the second most chaotic state for driving by Travel + Leisure, falling behind the big winner: Rhode Island.
