π Mayor Cahill Wins Re-Election
Election results, community support with the SNAP suspension, an update on the Bowl-O-Mat, and plenty of awesome events.

Good morning, Beverly. Tom Brady revealed that his dog Junie is a clone of his late dog Lua. So, the next time someone tells you something isnβt possible, remind them of Tom Bradyβs cloned dog and the fact that he lost to the Giants twice in the Super Bowl.

THE DIGEST
Mayor Cahill Wins Re-Election π³οΈ
Mayor Mike Cahill outlasted Brendan Sweeney with roughly 60% of the votes (6,228 for Cahill, 4,292 for Sweeney). Mayor Cahill will serve the first four-year term in our cityβs history and will hold the seat for at least 16 years (2014-2029). Final vote counts for the rest of the seats are still being finalized at the time of writing.

Beverly Neighbors Step Up Amid SNAP Suspension π½οΈ
With the ongoing government shutdown and the suspension of full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Beverly Bootstraps has seen a massive surge in people over the last two weeks. Beverly Bootstrapsβ executive director, Allison Caffrey, shared that the food pantry is now averaging 615 people per week, up from their usual of 500. Generous North Shore neighbors are stepping up, with one donor even dropping a $10,000 check to keep the shelves stocked for local families. Beverly Bootstraps serves 5,000+ residents across Beverly, Hamilton, Wenham, Manchester, and Essex who rely on SNAP benefits (4,500 in Beverly alone). They have enough food for now, thanks to amazing community support and help from groups like the Boston Food Bank.
However, there is uncertainty about when the shutdown will end and SNAP will return. Our community still needs support. If you can, please consider making a donation to Beverly Bootstraps.
The Bowl-O-Mat 'Limbo': Beloved Bowling Alley is Now a Pigeon Condo, Not Apartments π³
The once-bustling Bowl-O-Mat on River Street has been closed for seven years, leaving behind cherished memories and a building now home to flocks of pigeons. The site, which was purchased for $5.5 million in 2021 by Atlanta-based developer, remains in limbo as plans to transform it into apartments are stalled. The city needs to change the zoning first, but all efforts are on hold until the Hall Whitaker Bridge, closed since June 2022, is replaced. The temporary bridge is expected by 2027, with a permanent solution not arriving until 2032.
Despite its current state of disrepair, including peeling paint and boarded-up windows, the building complies with safety standards, according to Ward 1 City Councilor Todd Rotondo. Meanwhile, the pigeons continue to enjoy the space, thanks in part to local feeders.
