Good morning, Beverly. It’s another cold, icy day in our beautiful town. And like seemingly everyone else in the world, I’ve been battling another cold. There is probably a 50% chance you have something too, and I won’t forgive you for giving it to me.

Tell the Beverly School Committee the qualities you want in the next school superintendent 🧑‍🏫 

The school committee is working hard to ensure we all have a voice in the search for the next school superintendent. Last week, School Committee Chair Rachael Abell contacted me to share this survey with you all. The survey closes on 2/20, and common themes will be discussed at the February 26 School Committee meeting, so hurry up and fill it out!

The email noted, “In conjunction with our Superintendent Search facilitator, the School Committee has created a survey where Beverly residents can share the qualities, skills, and expertise you expect from our new School Superintendent. All responses will be considered and a candidate profile created for your responses, which will help the Screening Committee and the School Committee identify the most qualified candidates for our District’s new lead educator.” My wife noted she’d like someone tall, dark, and handsome.

This unrelenting winter weather ❄️ ⛄️ 🌬️ 

There was another parking ban last Saturday due to the beautiful winter weather we woke up to Sunday morning. Ensure you’re not parking on municipal streets for potential future parking bans, as “77 vehicles were tagged and 46 were towed last storm.”

Also, Beverly Airport saw winds of up to 56 mph on Monday and we’re expecting more wind, icy conditions, and more bitter-cold temperatures throughout this week. The good news? Spring starts on 3/20.

In uplifting news ❤️‍🩹 👏 

Three years ago Endicott College hockey player Jack Smiley took a hit to the back of his neck in practice which resulted in a stroke, paralysis for weeks, and a loss of function of all his muscles on the right side of his body. Doctors were unsure if he could walk again, let alone play hockey.

“The road to recovery was a long one and required an incredible amount of time and sacrifice. But thanks to his tremendous work ethic, passion, and love of hockey, Smiley will play in a game with his teammates on Saturday for the first time in three years.”

Jack laced up his skates and played last Saturday on Senior Night in front of friends, family, and his teammates. You can read more about it here and watch the incredible video that will bring you to tears. The Gulls won the game 4-1.

What else is buzzing 🐝 

• Young musicians from across the North Shore will perform with the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras at its chamber music concert in Rockport at the Shalin Liu Performance Center on Main Street in Rockport on Feb. 28 at 7 PM. Beverly has three students performing: Eamonn Conolly, Genevieve Chan, and Sofia Davis. 🎼 

• The Beverly Farms branch library is still closed. 📑 

• Did you mess up your Valentine’s Day plans? Don’t fret. Northshore Magazine covered 15 romantic dinner destinations for Valentine’s Day on the North Shore. Better late than never! 📅 🥖
