Beverly Bootstraps’ Best Chef takes place on 4/11, some major updates on Beverly Public Schools, opportunities to see the Easter Bunny, and plenty of upcoming events

Good morning, Beverly. Egg prices have dropped three weeks in a row. A dozen eggs went for $8.15 on February 21st and the price fell to $4.15 on March 14th. In unrelated news, I am now dropping the price of my collection of 240 eggs to $4.14 per dozen, and only $2.50 for the expired cartons, while supplies last.
In today’s Beverly Buzz:

THE DIGEST
Beverly Bootstraps’ Best Chef is around the corner 🍴 👨🍳
Join Beverly Bootstraps for a thrilling night of delectable food, raffles, a live auction, and a friendly competition at Best Chef on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 6 – 9 PM. Our support enables Beverly Bootstraps to continue serving over 6,000 community members here in Beverly and across the North Shore.
The competing chefs include Alex Pineda from Que Mas, Bill Fogarty from Kitchen Table, and Gabe Cheung from Essex County Club, and they will compete for the title of “Best Chef.” The celebrity judges include two Emmy Award-winning hosts, Anna Rossi and Maria Sansone.
The evening will begin at 6 PM with a “Taste of the North Shore,” where some of the area’s best restaurants will provide specialty samples while you mingle with friends. At 7:15, the competition begins. You can learn more in the link above and purchase tickets here.
Meanwhile, this is how my toddler treats me when I leave some crust on his grilled cheese:

Updates on Beverly Public Schools 🏫 🎒
The FY26 budget 💵
The Beverly School Committee shared their most recent community update from March 13th, which discusses the challenges we face in the year ahead for our school finances.
Their team is talking through many options on “how to address budget challenges while maintaining our high expectations for student learning and commitment to rigorous outcomes.” The District Budget FY26 page aims to answer common questions and provide resources to our community to remain informed on the process.
An additional 10 minutes per day next school year 🕛️
Starting in September 2025 there will be 10 minutes added to each school day for all Beverly public schools from preschool through high school. “The rationale for the additional 10 minutes is that it will give our youngest learners more time to settle into their classrooms and ensure our high school remains in compliance with state-mandated time on learning.”
The 2025—2026 school calendar was approved 📆
You can view it here.
Note: Early release days for elementary and middle school have been scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month (except December, which is held for parent/caregiver conferences).
The cost of the teachers’ strike 💰️
Per The Beverly Beat, “Taxpayers will pay over $750,000 for costs associated with the 21-day strike in November, according to the city.” Paul covers the breakdown in great detail here.
The Easter Bunny is coming to Northshore Mall this month 🐇 🥚
You can find the famous bunny at Northshore Mall starting on March 21st with plenty of experiences:
Book Easter Bunny photos here from 3/21 through 4/19.
Brunch with Bunny on 3/23 @ 11 AM.
Pet photos with Bunny on 3/30.
A special visit with Caring Bunny on 4/6. Caring Bunny® is a special, sensory-friendly experience - exclusively for children with special needs and their families.
You can also get the Bunny to commit tax fraud for $150 cash. (I’m Bunny for this option.)
What else is buzzing 🐝
Northshore Magazine put together a guide on where to watch the March Madness games “while enjoying fantastic food, countless TV screens, and extensive beer lists.” 🏀 📺️ 🍺
Are you missing $26 million? The IRS noted that $26 million in refunds from the 2021 tax year have yet to be claimed by 27,000 taxpayers. Speaking of which, tax day (4/15) is creeping up fast! 🤑
This week in Beverly Succession: Beverly Main Streets welcomed three new Board members: Paige Williams of Endicott College, Abby Battis of Historic Beverly, and Peter Bakhit of Score & Slip. Two long-serving Board members just retired: Sue Goganian and Gary Moffie. 🏢
Succession Part 2: Beverly Bootstraps executive director, Sue Gabriel, is stepping down and they are searching for a new executive director. 👩💼
Forever 21 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to vacate all stores by the end of April. The Northshore Mall location may be having closeout sales. 🛍️
