Restaurant week kicks off on Friday, updates on the trash strike, some city news, and plenty of awesome events.

Good morning, Beverly. AOL will discontinue its dial-up internet service next month. Kids today will never know what it was like to block all incoming calls to your house while you played cheap video games online. RIP, dial-up.

The latest on the trash strike πŸ—‘οΈ ♻️

We’re 43 days into the strike, and there appears to be no progress being made between Republic Services and Teamsters Local Union 25 over the last week. We are still on the regular trash collection schedule this week, so those with a regular Wednesday trash pickup should have their trash out before 7 AM this morning. There is no recycling pickup today.

There will be recycling pickup on Thursday for the residents of the Old Rubbly Road neighborhood, as well as residents of Essex St. between there and the Wenham line, including those who didn’t have their recycling picked up on Tuesday.

On August 8, Mayor Cahill stated via email, β€œTogether with the other 13 communities impacted by the Republic strike, we have again notified Republic that they are in breach of their contracts to all the affected communities, and that every community affected will withhold payment to Republic to cover the many costs we’ve all incurred, as well as withhold payment based on the ways they have failed to fulfill their contractual obligations.”

The Birarelli Wharf lawsuit is dismissed πŸ§‘β€βš–οΈ

The lawsuit between the city of Beverly and Birarelli Wharf over improperly stored, decomposing cow hides has been dismissed. The city previously accused the business of creating a public health hazard by improperly storing decomposing cow hides on its property, leading to foul odors and attracting flies. The issue was resolved when Birarelli Wharf covered the hides with plastic wrap and a tarp. Both parties agreed to dismiss the lawsuit last Friday.
