Hannah Bowen wins the Democratic primary for state rep, the drought is downgraded, a few restaurants are coming to Beverly, and plenty of upcoming events.

Good morning, Beverly. Some of you are looking forward to Easter, others 4/20, but Iβm mostly looking forward to our first 70-degree forecast in a very long time.

THE DIGEST
City updates π°
π’ State Rep: Hannah Bowen beat Todd Rotondo by about 600 votes to become the Democratic nominee in the race for State Representative. Bowen will face off with the Republican candidate, Medley Long, on May 13 for the position.
π° The Drought: MassDEP has declared the Northeast region is facing a Level 2 Drought, dropping from Level 3 a week ago. βNonessential outdoor water use is limited to watering of ornamentals and flower gardens with drip irrigation, hand-held hoses, or watering cans after 5 PM and before 9 AM,β per Beverlyma.gov.
π« The Superintendent Search: Sean Gallager, one of three final candidates, has withdrawn from the superintendent search process. Gallagerβs meet-and-greet events have been canceled. The School Committee will consider feedback received up until 10 AM Thursday, 4/17, before their discussion and deliberation later that night.
πββοΈ The Mayor Race: Mayor Cahill has announced that he is running for reelection. Itβs the first four-year term in our cityβs history, and the election will occur on November 4. Mayor Cahill has served as Beverlyβs Mayor for the last 12 years.
Letβs talk food π₯
π₯ The Northshore Mall Skinny Pancake is hosting "Free Crepe Day" today! Choose between the Choco Nutty or the North Hadley Sugar Shack from 10 AM to 8 PM.
π₯£ CAVA, a Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant chain, will soon open in North Beverly Plaza.
π Big Chicken, a sandwich and ice cream shop, also opens in North Beverly Plaza in late 2025.
What else is buzzing π
πΏ Itβs 4/20 Weekend at Reverie 73! Theyβll have specials 4/18 - 4/20.
ποΈ Trash pickup is delayed by one day next week.
π§ For parents of young ones: Savy Little Playhouse in Peabody now offers onsite babysitting for $24/hour for children 12 months to 6 years old.
π¨ Beverly is considering loosening its current ban on short-term vacation rentals due to difficulties enforcing the policy. βThe bylaw currently prohibits rentals of less than 28 days to anyone other than licensed lodging houses (such as hotels), "if you look online at any given time, there are dozens of (Beverly) units listed for short-term rentals."
NORTH SHORE EATS

What is this magnificent creation? Why, itβs the Baja Breakfast Burrito from Bonefish Harryβs. I ate this on Saturday morning, and Iβm still full. Do yourself a favor and drop by Bonefish Harryβs soon for great food, the coolest art, and fantastic music.
