The latest with Beverly’s cash 💰️ 

A new $800,000 fuel depot ⛽️ 

A new fuel depot is “desperately” needed, and it will cost $800,000. The city council voted unanimously to approve funding for the project. The fuel depot provides gas for all city vehicles.

$21,000 returned to Beverly residents after Bitcoin scam 💸 

The victims, ages 80, 83, and 90, were tricked into depositing cash into Bitcoin ATMs by the culprits. Timing is everything, and these funds likely wouldn’t have been recovered and returned had the crimes not been reported within 24 hours. $150,000 in additional funds were seized, per the Beverly police. In related news, I dropped $150,000 downtown last week. Please give me a call, Beverly police.

$810,000 in fines can’t be used to offset costs of teacher strike 💵 

The strike cost from late 2024 totaled $750,000, and the teachers’ union was fined $810,000 during the strike. However, the November 2024 return-to-work agreement stipulates that the fines won’t be used to pay for strike-related costs.

The Beverly Teachers Association hopes the fines are reduced so they can direct the money to Beverly Bootstraps. A judge will ultimately decide where the money goes.

Restaurant updates 🌮 🍝 

The Beverly Acapulcos location will close on April 20 after 23 years in the Cummings Center due to a lack of a new lease agreement for their space. General Manager Francisco Lepe hopes to reopen Acapulcos in a new Beverly location within the next year.

Best of the North Shore (BONS) award-winning restaurateur Paul LaRosa will open a second LaRosa’s location in Newburyport this May.

What else is buzzing 🐝 

• Beverly Hospital nurses will hold an "informational picket" today at 4 PM at the hospital. They seek “assurance of adequate staffing levels, competitive wages, and maintenance of existing health insurance plans.” 👩‍⚕️ 

• A boulder rolled down a hill and into the Landmark School last Friday, leading to a gas leak and evacuation from the impacted dormitory. Landmark was on break, and nobody was hurt. 🪨 

• Two sixth graders in Marblehead won an international contest to create an invention to improve the lives of people with disabilities. They invented fun bandages to cover feeding tubes for kids with dysphagia, hoping to make them more comfortable and confident. 👏 

• Northshore Magazine wrote an article about the “6 Ways to Celebrate Spring 2025 on the North Shore.” There are some great ideas in it! ☀️
