Hello, friends. It’s me, Chase. The guy who puts this weekly newsletter together and hits on about 8% of my jokes. I’ve been publishing the Beverly Buzz for almost four months, and we have almost 1,500 subscribers! It’s been a fun start, and it feels like it’s going well from where I sit, but I want to hear from you.

Hear from the State Representative candidates 🗣️ 

The Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) is hosting a State Representative Forum at A&B Burgers this Friday, May 2. Residents will hear from both candidates, Democrat Hannah Bowen and Republican Medley Long. They are campaigning for the State Representative position for the 6th Essex District, which includes Beverly and Wenham Precinct 1.

It will be a “moderated, business issue-oriented forum focused on our [GBCC] members’ most urgent business needs.” Tickets are $30 per person and include a breakfast buffet. Check-in, networking, and breakfast begin at 8:30 AM, and the formal program starts at 9 AM.

City updates 🚰 🏢 

Hydrant Flushing: The city is flushing hydrants Mondays through Thursdays from 7 PM - 11 PM. Per city guidance, “Discoloration of water could result. If this occurs, please allow more time for the water system to settle down before using any water. Please do not run your hot water until your cold water is clear.”

Office Hours: Mayor Cahill is hosting office hours on May 8 from 5 PM to 6:30 PM at Beverly City Hall. If you can’t make it but have questions, email them to [email protected].

What else is buzzing 🐝 

• 💐 Mother’s Day is next Sunday, May 11. The Beverly Downtown Mom Crawl takes place on May 10. Use this guide to find the best gifts for the moms in your life.

• 🏀 The Celtics will bring their Jr. Celtics Academy to Beverly on May 17 for an All-Girls Showcase for players of all skill levels. This event is for girls ages 7-14 and will be held at the Greater Beverly YMCA.

• 💰️ Do you own a small business or plan to start one? Reserve your free spot at the Funding Your Small Business event on May 8. You will learn about U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) programs and free support services available to help local entrepreneurs start and/or grow their business.
