Beverly Snow Recovery: Everything You Need to Know βοΈ
Below is a rundown of everything you should know related to our recent storm and city updates:
ποΈ Trash and recycling pickup is delayed one day this week due to the storm.
π The parking ban has been lifted.
βοΈ The city maintains a Snow Center page where you can check for updates on parking, trash pickup, bus service status, school status, and more.
π£ Three cheers for Beverly Police, who worked hard during the storm to support our homeless residents.
π If you need a good laugh, read Superintendent Dr. Peter Cushingβs Facebook post about the storm.
π§βπ The city asks for our help in keeping fire hydrants accessible and clearing them out if you can, and reminds us that we need to clear snow and ice from our sidewalks.
π The MBTA commuter rail page has important updates for those who will be using the train this week. Many trains were delayed or canceled yesterday on the Newburyport/Rockport line. They also note that ongoing snow operations may reduce parking availability at some MBTA parking facilities. And, from January 31 - February 1, local and express shuttle buses will replace regular weekend train service on the Newburyport/Rockport Line between North Station and Swampscott.
π¨οΈ There is a chance we get hit with another storm this weekend. I know, itβs too soon.

Me going out to shovel for the 7th time.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors π©
While most of us were digging out of two feet of snow, the volunteers at Ellis Square Friends were busy saving lives. The local nonprofit secured motel rooms for seven neighbors experiencing homelessness, ensuring families stayed warm through the worst of the storm. Founded by Brenda Mattos, this grassroots group also hosts weekly community dinners and provides essential services like mailing addresses and warm coats for our community members. You can make a difference by donating, cooking, or volunteering with Ellis Square Friends.
The 2026 Deficit: Whatβs Next for Beverly Schools and City Hall π°οΈ
State Rep. Hannah Bowen is hosting a community conversation on February 5 at the Ryal Side Civic Center to discuss the widening gap in state education funding. As Mayor Cahill prepares for a projected 2026 structural deficit, officials are weighing difficult options like fee increases and layoffs. The event begins at 6 p.m. and offers constituents a direct opportunity to provide input on rising municipal costs and legislative solutions.
Additionally, Beverly City Council has approved $28 million for essential renovations to the century-old City Hall, despite the projected 2026 deficit. While Mayor Cahill insists the project is a necessary capital investment that cannot be delayed, some officials remain concerned about future budget constraints. Once a temporary site is secured this February, municipal services will relocate for approximately 18 months to allow for full building accessibility and system upgrades.
What else is buzzing π
π Looking for a summer job? Applications for roles at Lynch Park will be available on February 2 for rangers, lifeguards, camp counselors, and and park counselors.
ποΈ The main library is undergoing minor HVAC repairs through mid-May, which may cause occasional noise and parking limitations on Essex Street but will result in improved climate control.
π₯ Salem Restaurant Week is ending tomorrow. If you have a chance to get out of the house, you might want to check out some of their specials.
βοΈ Northshore Magazine shared the spots where youβll find the best hot chocolate on the North Shore. Nearby spots include A&J King in Salem, Honeycomb in Hamilton, Zumiβs in Ipswich, Kakawa Chocolate House in Salem, and Putnam Pantry in Danvers.
