THE DIGEST
The latest on the trash strike ๐๏ธ โป๏ธ
What you need to know this morning: Trash is delayed one day this week, as the city directed more trucks towards recycling on Monday to make progress on pickups across town. If you have a usual Tuesday pickup, put your trash out before 7 AM this morning. There will be no recycling pickup today.
There are two staffed recycling drop-offs today. Each of these drop-offs will be open for between two and three hours, or until the dumpsters are full.
Starting at 4 PM, regular municipal trash and recycling customers can bring recycling to the city DPS yard at 148 Park St. Enter Park St. from Federal St. and line up along the right side of Park St., approaching the DPS yard.
Starting at 5 PM, a recycling drop off will begin at the cityโs yard waste compost site at 16 Standley St. Enter Standley St. behind the Centerville Richdale store and line up along the right side of the road approaching the compost site.
Some additional updates from local reporting:
Mayor Cahill, along with city leaders from 10 other towns, sent a joint municipal letter to Republic Services on August 12 regarding service failures. In it, they state, โAll of our communities intend to withhold portions of our next payments for costs incurred by our communities and for services that Republic has not and is not providing, as we all await a return to normal service.โ
Gov. Maura Healey has called the president of Republic Services multiple times, but has not heard back. Additionally, she has sent multiple open letters โslamming the company for the lack of talks.โ The last session between Republic Services and the Teamsters Local Union 25 was on July 18, and no follow-up conversations were scheduled as of this Monday.
