๐ Dirty deeds
An update on the trash strike, great work being done to update local deeds, some great sandwiches made by familiar faces, and plenty of awesome events.

Good morning, Beverly. Itโs been extremely hot, as you know. If you put your recycling out, it wonโt get picked up, but it might melt into the earth. Just something to think about.

THE DIGEST
The latest on the trash strike ๐๏ธ โป๏ธ
Weโre 29 days into the strike, and weโre no closer to the finish line. Below is the latest update from Mayor Cahill on July 29, and some additional insights from local reporting.
We are still on the regular trash collection schedule this week, so those with a regular Wednesday trash pickup should have their trash out before 7 AM this morning.
If your trash was missed this week, email [email protected], and heโll try to get it picked up today.
There is no recycling pickup today.
However, there are two staffed recycling drop-offs today. First, starting at 8 AM, you can bring your recycling to the yard waste compost site at 16 Standley St. Enter Standley St. behind the Centerville Richdale store and line up along the right side of Standley St. approaching the compost site. Next, starting at 4 PM, you can bring your recycling to the city DPS yard at 148 Park St. Enter Park St. from Federal St. and line up along the right side of Park St. approaching the DPS yard. Each of these drop-offs will be open for between two and three hours.
Unfortunately, the last negotiating session between Teamsters Local 25 Union and Republic Services occurred on July 18, and no new bargaining sessions have been scheduled. The nine members of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation sent a joint letter to Republic Services President last weekend, urging the company to resume negotiations immediately and to reach an agreement to end the work stoppage. Local Union 25 had 450 workers picketing across the country as of Monday.
Letโs talk food ๐ฆ ๐ฅช ๐
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in Northshore Mall is offering $1 scoops this Thursday from 11 AM to 1 PM. Also, the first 100 customers will receive a limited-edition tote.
Backbeat Brewing Company is now offering sandwiches made from some familiar faces from Gloria Food Store. You can find their first menu here.
Joeโs Pizza on Rantoul St is permanently closed.
Northshore Magazine wrote about 6 North Shore Spots to Slurp Up Oysters This Summer. Iโve enjoyed some great oysters from CK Pearl in Essex and 1606 in Gloucester, both of which are on the list.
Out with the dirty deeds ๐
A project in Southern Essex County has begun removing discriminatory language, specifically restrictive covenants, from property deeds. These covenants were historically used to exclude certain religious, racial, and ethnic groups from housing. The Registry of Deeds is contacting affected property owners to assist them in removing the language, which is achieved by owners signing and recording an affidavit as an addendum to their deed, ensuring the discriminatory language is not carried forward upon sale or transfer of the property.
