Beverly has bridge updates, backlash for a 440-unit proposed building, and trash day is delayed a day next week

Good morning, Beverly. And welcome to the new subscribers who have joined over the past few days. Iโm excited to share the latest news and events with you while sprinkling in subpar humor throughout. My lucky wife gets to hear each joke twice.
In todayโs Beverly Buzz:
Beverly is working on its bridges ๐
440-unit development proposal for Trask Lane faces backlash ๐๏ธ
Trash is delayed a day next week (donโt say we didnโt warn you) ๐๏ธ

Letโs get to it.

THE DIGEST
London [Beverly] Bridges are Trying Not to Fall Down ๐
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced the permanent closure of the Hall-Whitaker Bridge to vehicular traffic. Pedestrian, bicycle, and marine access to the bridge will remain open. MassDOT is hosting a public meeting to inform the public about the proposed temporary bridge project to replace the Hall-Whitaker Bridge. This meeting will occur on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Beverly Middle School. If you donโt like the proposal, gently shout โboo.โ
The Kernwood Drawbridge mechanical repairs will continue through Friday, January 24th. These repairs will impact navigation through the channel. Repairs are scheduled to occur each weekday from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The drawbridge will remain open to vehicular traffic during the repairs.
Concerns over a Proposed 440-unit Development ๐๏ธ
Corcoran Trask Lane LLC plans to build "The Commons at Trask Lane," a large-scale housing development on 12 acres of land. The 501,000-square-foot project would be divided into two sites, each containing residential buildings ranging from 73 to 83 units.
Those against cite concerns about traffic congestion, strain on city resources (impact on schools, police, fire, and waste management), and potential environmental impact. The developer acknowledges resident concerns and plans to work with the city to address traffic and other issues.
The Planning Board plans to review the proposal at their Wednesday night meeting with a stream scheduled on BevCam.
Real ID Deadline is Creeping Up ๐ชช
On May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. The deadline is approaching, but TSA is seeking flexibility for a phased implementation.
What is Real ID? It's a federally approved form of identification required for domestic air travel and entry to federal buildings.
What do Massachusetts residents need to know? Real ID and standard ID costs are the same, but Real ID requires an in-person visit. You'll need proof of citizenship, Social Security number, and Massachusetts residency. Bring in some dunks if you want to get the fast pass to the front of the line.
Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Itโs a federal holiday, so check if you have work. That is all.
