๐Ÿ Big news about The Cabot

The Cabot is buzzing, some great beer and food events across Massachusetts, an update on the superintendent search, and the best events you can find in one place

Good morning, Beverly. Weโ€™re two months into 2025. Have you stuck with your New Year's resolutions? I planned on reading more books and Iโ€™ve finished sixโ€ฆpages so far. It might sound bad, but thatโ€™s five more pages than last year.

In todayโ€™s Beverly Buzz:

  • The Cabot is Buzzing ๐ŸŽญ๏ธ ๐ŸŽฅ ๐ŸŽผ

  • Food and Drink Events ๐Ÿฅฉ ๐Ÿบ

  • Update on the Superintendent Search ๐Ÿ”Ž ๐Ÿซ

  • Upcoming events ๐ŸŽฅ ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Letโ€™s get to it.

THE DIGEST

The Cabot is Buzzing ๐ŸŽญ๏ธ ๐ŸŽฅ ๐ŸŽผ

Hereโ€™s the latest on our favorite theater:

  • The Cabot is planning to close for three months beginning in July so they can perform renovations to the exterior of the theater, including a new sign. Iโ€™ll be singing โ€œWonderwallโ€ with an old guitar out front if you want some cheap entertainment. (Tips are expected.)

  • Brian Ridolfo is the new executive director. Ridolfo was chosen after a nationwide search and has vast experience in the performing arts.

  • The Cabot was awarded a $200,000 grant through the Mass Cultural Council "Gaming Mitigation Fund" program โ€” the highest amount available. The program is designed to support venues that compete for shows against resort-style casinos in Massachusetts.

Ridolfo to the Mass Cultural Council as soon as he was hired:

Food and Drink Events ๐Ÿฅฉ ๐Ÿบ

The food ๐Ÿฅฉ : Dine Out Boston is live and goes through 3/15. Restaurants will usually run special prix fixe menus at various price points for both lunch and dinner. You can find the full list of participating restaurants and their Dine Out Boston menus here.

The drinks ๐Ÿป : Mass Beer Week is in full swing. It started on 3/1 and goes through 3/8. Per Mass Brewers Guild, โ€œThe goal of the weeklong series of events is to shine a bright spotlight on the amazing craft beer made in our state and to draw traffic and tourism to your establishments to drink it all in!โ€ You can find everything you need to know here.

The Beverly School Committee has assembled a diverse team to screen candidates for the superintendent role. The committee encompasses current students, educators, community members, administrators, and familiar school committee members like Mayor Mike Cahill and Chair Rachael Abell.

The goal timeline for identifying the superintendent is as follows:

  • Screening Committee oriented by March 5.

  • Applications close on March 15.

  • Determine two to four finalists by March 27.

  • School Committee interviews, school visits, and stakeholder meetings by April 16.

  • The School Committee is scheduled to vote on its pick on April 17.

What else is buzzing ๐Ÿ

  • Get ready to feel tired on Sunday morning. Daylight saving time (spring forward) begins Sunday, March 9, with clocks rolling forward one hour at 2 AM. ๐Ÿฆ˜

  • Beverly Hospital has launched a donor breast milk program at no cost for newborn patients with low birth weights, who were born preterm and who meet medically necessary criteria. ๐Ÿผ

  • The Meineke Car Care Center on Rantoul Street is closed after 35 years. ๐Ÿš—

  • Eversource and National Grid proposed a 10% cut to Massachusetts gas bills for March and April. The average natural gas bill for National Grid customers would be reduced by approximately $40 per month. โ›ฝ๏ธ

  • Check your lottery tickets! Two winning Powerball tickets of $1 million and $50,000 have yet to be claimed and are expiring soon. They were purchased in Methuen and North Reading. ๐ŸŽซ ๐Ÿ’ฐ๏ธ
