Good morning, Beverly. Itโs Homecoming week, and there are countless awesome events planned. Iโm grateful we live in a community that puts on events like Arts Fest, the Block Party, and Beverly Homecoming. So many people work tirelessly to bring us together, and itโs a beautiful thing.

THE DIGEST
Beverly, so hot right now ๐ฅ
The hottest zip code in America is 01915, also known as Beverly, Massachusetts. Beverly took first place even though our town was a newcomer to the annual hottest zip codes list.
โEach year, Realtor.com's Hottest ZIP Codes report spotlights the U.S. ZIP codes where buyer interest is strongest and homes are flying off the market, highlighting areas that remain attractive to buyers, and therefore competitive, even as the nationwide trends point to slower home sales and softer price trends in many markets.โ
If youโre planning on selling your house, maybe donโt include the ongoing trash strike in the Zillow listing.

Mugatu knows weโve got it going on.
The latest on the trash strike ๐๏ธ โป๏ธ
Weโre 36 days into the strike, and there is no end in sight. Below is the latest update from Mayor Cahill on August 5, and some additional insights from local reporting.
We are still on the regular trash collection schedule this week, so those with a regular Wednesday trash pickup should have their trash out before 7 AM this morning.
If your trash was missed this week, email [email protected], and heโll try to get it picked up today. Oxford Terrace trash will be picked up first thing tomorrow.
There is no recycling pickup today.
The Teamsters Local Union 25 members voted to continue their work stoppage for a 35th day on Monday, with a 93% vote to remain on strike. Union President Tom Mari noted it has been 15 days since Republic Services met with union members for a negotiation session. Beverly, Danvers, and Peabody are looking for financial and other recourse against Republic amid the continued disruptions.
Beverly Hospital receives major recognition ๐ฅ ๐๏ธ
Beverly Hospital was named a "Best Hospital" by U.S. News & World Report. It was also given "high-performing" ratings in three categories: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hip replacement, and knee replacement. The rankings are based on an analysis of objective measures like risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications, and the level of nursing care.
Nearly 5,000 hospitals were evaluated, and only 13 percent of the evaluated hospitals earned a โBest Hospitalโ designation. Data from over 800 million patient care records were used in evaluations.
School updates ๐ ๐ซ
The State Senate passed the 'Bell-To-Bell' smartphone ban bill. Itโs now headed to the house, and then to Governor Maura Healey โ an open supporter of the bill. We should expect โreasonable exceptionsโ to the rule for students who need their devices for off-campus travel requirements, individualized education plans (IEP), accommodating a disability, and for emergencies and medical conditions.
Bonnie Carr, Director of Workforce Development & Adult Education at Essex Tech North Shore, is retiring. Jill Sawyer, who has served in various leadership roles at the school since 2018, will step into the role.
What else is buzzing ๐
๐งโ๐คโ๐ง Beverly Homecoming kicked off yesterday and runs through Sunday, August 10. Celebrate 60 years of homecoming with events like LobsterFest, fireworks, the Beverly Beer Mile, concerts, and more. The full schedule is available below.
๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ 25 candidates have taken out papers to run for city positions this fall. The final, โBiennial Municipal Election,โ takes place on November 4. This is the first election that will result in a four-year term for mayor.
๐ป Matt and Ben from Old Planters announced that this will be their last year running the brewery. They hope someone will want to continue running the brewery, and if not, they will try to โfoster a new concept for our building that will be a great addition to Rantoul Street.โ
๐งโ๐ณ Dine Out Boston, formerly known as Restaurant Week Boston, runs through August 16. Dine Out Boston is a multi-week program offering locals and visitors prix fixe dining options at participating restaurants.
