THE DIGEST
The trash strike is over ๐๏ธ โป๏ธ
After 82 days, the strike is over. Trash and recycling pickup are now back on the regular schedule. Below are some important items you should know as we get back in the swing of things:
Republic has waived the two-barrel trash limit for regular Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday customers this week due to missed pickups last week.
Leaf pickup begins next week on our respective trash days. Here is the link to the schedule, which weโll continue to share moving forward.
Republic will pick up one bulk item per week for those who need to put items out. If you have appliances that need to be picked up, use this link to learn how to schedule Republic for the October pickup.
Regarding the end of the strike, Teamsters Local 25 President Thomas Mari stated last Friday, โThis is an extremely strong contract, and our members are looking forward to going back to work Monday, and back into the communities they service." Conversations between Republic and the union went cold for extended periods during the strike, but follow-ups from the impacted cities and continual pressure from Gov. Maura Healey helped push Republic back to the negotiating table to close out a deal. The contract includes raises of 46% over the course of the five-year deal and improvements to health benefits, leading to union membership ratifying the new contract by a 92% margin.
I will miss my nightly emails and calls from Mayor Cahill. But seeing my recycling picked up this week will fill that void.

Fire hydrant upgrades across Beverly ๐๏ธ
Triangle, Inc., a non-profit that provides greater opportunities for employment, empowerment, independence, and community inclusion for people with disabilities, has partnered with the Beverly Department of Public Works to restore fire hydrants across Beverly.
Participants from Triangle's Salem location are priming and painting fire hydrants in Beverly to improve their aesthetics and make them more visible for first responders. During the process, important data is also being collected on each hydrant to ensure they meet operational standards.

MomBall celebrated its 25th anniversary last weekend, and the BHS moms claimed the title. The turnout was incredible at Harry Ball Field as always.
The Beverly varsity football team won their second game in a row by dismantling Revere to the tune of 42-7 last week. The Panthers play Wakefield Memorial this Friday.
The Beverly 400+ Committee is hosting a golf tournament on October 20 to help fund programming for the city's 400th anniversary next year. Sponsor opportunities and registration are now open.
The Beverly Cornhole League begins next Tuesday, September 30. You can register here either as part of a team or individually.
